Bucs already have Tom Brady’s replacement, will go after Baker Mayfield in free agency

Baker Mayfield

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are already thinking about Tom Brady’s replacement, apparently they will go after Baker Mayfield in free agency, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.  NFL free agency begins on March 15, but there have been some moves for some time now. The one that would draw the most attention would be Mayfield’s arrival in Tampa. Todd Bowles doesn’t dislike the former Cleveland Browns player at all. Bucs so far only have signed quarterback Kyle Trask.

Mayfield is coming off a down season

Baker Mayfield was the number one pick in the 2018 draft by the Cleveland Browns. There he managed to have good seasons and led the team to the playoffs in 2020. With the Browns he had three straight seasons with 20 touchdown passes or more.

Mayfield decided to leave Cleveland when they signed Deshaun Watson. The University of Oklahoma graduate found a team with the Carolina Panthers, but could not have a good season and left the team at 1-5, he was cut almost halfway through the season.

With Matthew Stafford’s injury, the Los Angeles Rams set their eyes on Mayfield. With Rams the quarterback played five games, threw for 850 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.  Buccaneers have the 19th overall draft pick, so it will be difficult for them to select a +elite quarterback, that’s why the arrival of Baker Mayfield doesn’t sound bad.
