Over the past several years, Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has emerged as not only one of the top players in the entire league but also one of the most valuable and marketable players in all of sports. But unfortunately for him, it’s unlikely he’ll ever be fairly compensated for that.
Mahomes is currently radically underpaid compared to the other top quarterbacks throughout the league. And even when he signs a new deal with the team in the near future, Kansas City Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt admits that “coming up with a dollar value for what Mahomes means to KC would be a challenging endeavor.”
Hunt went as far as to say that no matter what the Kansas City Chiefs and Mahomes agree to in the future, Mahomes will likely be underpaid throughout his NFL career.
“I don’t know that there’s really a way to quantify it financially,” Hunt said according to Pro Football Talk. “And, no matter what he makes over his career, I’m sure one way or another, he’ll be underpaid.”
It’s a horrible reality for Mahomes to know that he will be missing out on millions of dollars simply because of a salary cap and because it’s difficult to quantify his worth and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
Clark Hunt knows Patrick Mahomes is so valuable to the Chiefs that, no matter what his contract says, he'll always be underpaid. https://t.co/n5lcslfu9y

There’s no contractual value that could measure how much Mahomes means to the chiefs organization. One of the best qbs that we will ever see

wouldnt a "% of the cap" deal for Mahomes (+a few others) b good for the team as well?? Teams wont b stuck overpaying a player if/when the cap drops again, & only the 1st 2-3 yrs would b guaranteed as all other NFL contracts (xcept Watson & Cousins)

It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs are able to pay Mahomes. But wherever it is, it will not be enough.
