For the second consecutive year, a former Giants wide receiver scored a key touchdown for the winning team in the Super Bowl. This time it was Kadarius Toney, the Giants’ 2020 first-round pick who was traded to the Chiefs at midseason. Toney scored the first touchdown of the fourth quarter to give Kansas City its first lead of the game at 28-27.
Then, on the next possession, he had a huge punt return that set up the Chiefs to add to their lead. Last year, Odell Beckham Jr. got his first Super Bowl ring as a member of the Rams, years after the Giants traded him away. On Sunday, Beckham laughed at the Giants for trading Toney, and the Chiefs wide receiver replied in agreement.

Although Beckham reportedly considered signing with the Giants during the season, he still seems to have some animosity toward the organization that traded him to the Browns in March 2019. Toney, meanwhile, played a key role for the Chiefs down the stretch after only recording two catches for the Giants this season. He set a Super Bowl record for the longest punt return, 65 yards, in Sunday’s victory.

Following the game, Toney expressed how confident he was in his ability to make a difference in the Big Game. “At the end of the day, I know what I can do with the ball in my hands,” he said, via NFL.com. “Not a surprise.”
