The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for another run at the Super Bowl in the upcoming 2023 NFL season, with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the way. After winning his second Super Bowl MVP award and second regular-season NFL MVP award during the 2022 season, Mahomes will be looking to add to his impressive resume.
The team has also been working to strengthen their roster, with rumors circulating that they will be bringing back running back Jerick McKinnon on a new contract. McKinnon had been with the Chiefs for the past two years, but became a free agent at the end of last season. After reportedly testing his market, he has decided to likely return to the team.

During the 2022 season, McKinnon saw a significant increase in his production compared to the previous year. He totaled 803 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns, compared to 169 scrimmage yards and one touchdown in 2021. He also played a key role in the playoffs, adding 407 scrimmage yards and another touchdown to his impressive stats.
As the Chiefs continue to use a committee approach in their backfield, McKinnon is expected to be one of the team’s most important running backs in 2023. While Isiah Pacheco led the team in rushing yards in 2022, McKinnon was the team’s top receiving back, recording over 500 receiving yards last season.
He has earned the trust of Mahomes in the passing game, and will likely continue to play a similar role in the upcoming season. With Mahomes leading the offense and a strong supporting cast, including McKinnon, the Chiefs are looking like serious contenders for another Super Bowl title in 2023.
